Intellectual Arbitration

Dr. Michaela S. Halpern is a New York qualified attorney specializing in international law particularly international arbitration – both commercial and investment. She has recently focused on developing the field of intellectual property arbitration and high-tech- “Intellectual Arbitration”

Dr. Halpern has studied and worked around the world including an LLB honours from the University of Edinburgh, an LLM in International Legal Studies with distinction and a certificate in International Dispute Resolution from Georgetown University, and a PhD in international arbitration and intellectual property from the Queen Mary University of London Center for Commercial Law Studies.

She has worked at the World Bank and at NGOs including Human Rights First and the American Red Cross International Law Department. In the private sector, Dr. Halpern engaged in the representation of countries and multinational corporations, including at the Peace Palace in the Hague, as part of the international arbitration team of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. It was during this time that she saw the emergence of a growing field for intellectual property arbitration and decided to pursue her PhD.

In the academic world, Dr. Halpern is currently an external faculty member at the Reichman University Radzyner School of Law in Israel where she has created and taught several courses including International Arbitration, The Law of War, and Comparative Contract Law. She has also served as a Global Teaching Fellow on extradition and terrorism at Georgetown University Law Center and was involved in training students for the international Jean-Pictet Competition.

Dr. Halpern is also on the Advisory Board of the non-profit Caroga Arts Collective.

Publications

Dr. Halpern has several major legal publications in journals including the Stanford Journal of International Law, the Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law, and more and is in the process of publishing a book.
